Dec. 7th, 2005 @ 02:59 am Comparative Essay
Hi,

I just wrote an essay comparing the figures of the prostitute and criminal in Crime and Punishment and Oliver Twist for my college English class. I'm supposed to explore the social and the symbolic meanings of the images of the murderer and the prostitute and examine what role the characters' interaction with each other play in the novel. It's a big topic, and I'm afraid I've rambled, so I'd just like to know if this essay makes sense to anybody. And I desperately need a grammar check, since my professor has told me that I'm prone to awkward wording, so please for the love of good grammar point out anything that catches your eye. Nitpickiness = wonderful.

Essay here, grammar help appreciated beyond belief.Collapse )

Nov. 25th, 2005 @ 03:35 pm Proof-reading / criticism needed.
I am a Physical Education student in my second year and I have a socio-history paper that needs to be proof-read. I asked some people to look over it but the only criticism they gave was "It's a good paper." which doesn't help me (or my paper) at all.

My paper is about the effects that the Great Depression had on Canadian sports. It's about 8 pages long (too long to be put in cut tags) so I am wondering if anyone wants to suffer through my writing and make corrections. Any help would be greatly appreciated !

It's not due until Friday Dec 2nd.

Comment if you're interested then we can work something out. :P

I had a peer edit today, and the final draft of the paper is due on Monday. I didn’t get much criticism, and I just wanted to see if anybody here had anything to say. It’s a comparison/contrast paper. It's kind of long... About 800 words. Thanks in advance.

I'm sure I am not the only high school senior who has college essay writer's block. So if you want to help me with my college essays (read/edit/brainstorm), I will happily do the same for you in return. Email me (jellohno@yahoo.com) or AIM me (dredgies). :)

Hey, I just came out of my English class and our "peer editing" session... Well, it didn't really help me at all. Everyone just said it was good, but nobody gave me constructive criticism.
Would it be totally out of line if I posted my paper (under a cut) along with the guidelines for the paper? I'm just looking for something better than "that's good."
Thanks.

Oh bugger this is embarassing.

What's the word to describe a religion that is centred on looking forward to the end of the world? 'Christianity is a/an ______ religion', ie. Christianity is a religion that believes in a linear progression of society/the world towards Judgment Day?

I think it starts with 'e' but I'm not sure.

I'm so glad murrs posted, because it was pretty dead in here. Let's get this community hoppin'! If someone in an unrelated community asks for help with an essay, direct him/her over here! If you belong to a community for your high school or college and are allowed to advertise, please advertise! Also: This is the only default color scheme for this layout that is not ugly/unreadable. If anyone is good at picking out colors, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Love,

Rita (maintainer)

Hi there. I'm new the the community... And I am a senior in highschool, writing my application essay for NYU, which my teacher has assigned as homework to help us get started.

My topic is: The best writing is often very personal. All kinds of experiences - serious, funny, unexplained, fleeting- can influence our lives and help make us who we are. Tell us about a person, place or event in your life that has particular meaning for you and why it is important to you. We'd especially like to hear about someone or something that has affected your life that may not have affected or even been noticed by other people.

My essayCollapse )

All feedback is appreciated!

Jul. 26th, 2005 @ 03:56 pm Summer Update
I updated the layout. I know all the gray is blah and boring, but it's the only pre-fab color scheme for this layout that doesn't make my eyes bleed. Eventually I'll punch it up with some color, but I don't have the artistic brain for it right now.

It's summertime, so most of you have no need for this community, but be sure to remember this place when school bells are a-ringin' again.

That's about it. Lemme know of other websites that should go in the "Helpful Links" section.

Just joined, and I've got a quick question on citation.

I'm referencing an essay in a book of essays. When I cite this internally (and on my works cited page), do I use the editor of the book or the writer of the essay?

more detailed infoCollapse )

This isn't due for a few days, (friday the 6th) so no rush.

Thanks!
